The Levi Kennedy Scholars Program at SwCC
The Levi Kennedy Scholars Program at SwCC is a two-year cohort experience that provides academic, mentoring and other unique opportunities to students awarded a prestigious scholarship from the Levi Kennedy Scholarship Organization. This four year scholarship ($2000 Awarded annually) will be used for two years at SwCC and transferrable (remaining two years) to the student's four year institution.

After qualification is established, the committee is tasked with make the determination of which qualified students will be accepted to the Scholars program. There will be five(5) scholars selected each year. The LK Scholars program is prestigious, however selection into the program is not based solely on academic excellence. The committee will make a determination based on the academic record, involvement, goals and need. To be considered for the LK Scholars Program as an incoming freshman, a student must:
The LK Scholars Program includes:
- Academic – Academic Enrichment workshops, tutoring, designated study sessions etc through the Center for Student Success (CSS)
- Success Coaching- assist the incoming freshmen with their transition to college. The Success Coach, through the Center of Student Success will also provide assistance on the varied aspects of college life including academics, on-campus involvement and transfer preparation and additional scholarships.
- Transfer Preparation-assistance with applications, campus visits and finding additional funding sources
- Mentoring – faculty, alumni and peer (2nd years) on career plans, spiritual development, internships and issues of a personal nature
- Social – a variety of cultural (the opera; symphony; theatre; and the ballet) and spiritual activities throughout the year
- Service – impactful; diverse; community engagement
- #SuccessSwCC Camp- the goal to to assist students on getting a head start on the traditionally “tough classes”. #SuccessSwCC Camp will be hosted by the Center for Student Success and faculty. The sessions will include lecture and interactive group exploration that engage students and prepare them for the rigor of college classes.

- Factorization and Rational Expression
- Exponents and Radicals
- Linear, Quadratic and Rational Equations
- System of Linear Equations
- Function and Basic Operations
- College 101 addresses general topics students will benefit from before their first day on campus. Topics that will covered:
- Time Management
- Introduction to College Writing
- The Syllabus
- Understanding the Academic Calendar
- Financial Aid and Financial Planning
- Stress relievers
- Health and Wellness
- Biology Basics addresses topics that students will need to be familiar with before entering Biology .
- Science Vocabulary & Concepts: Study Skills & Word Parts
- The Scientific Method: Steps, Terms & Examples
- Experimental Design in Science: Definition & Method
- How to Read Scientific Graphs & Charts
LK Scholars, both academic and Ministerial must be:
- Currently enrolled or planning to attend SwCC
- Provide Letter of Intent o Letter should express student's desire to acquire Christian education o Letter should include student’s work ands and achievements o Letter should include career goals
- Supporting documents
- SwCC Acceptance letter
- Official copy of HS transcript
- Letter of recommendation letter from:
- The Letter of Intent and all supporting documents must be submitted before the September 1st, 2018 deadline.

- Have demonstrated participation and leadership in community, church, school, or other organizations
- Be able to demonstrate financial need (Net annual family income - $85,000 and below; subject to case-by-case review)
- Have strong academic abilities, as evidenced by grades and SAT/ACT scores
- Apply for admission to Southwestern Christian College as a full-time student for (upcoming academic year)
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA-eligibility for need based aid is not a requirement to receive the scholarship)
- Be willing to live on campus in the residence hall for at least the first year
- Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
- Five study hours per week in a controlled academic environment. Scholars will be required to sign in and out with the person in charge at each location, who will turn in a weekly sign-in sheet to the Director of Center for Student Success (CSS). These hours will be attained through:
- Studying or completing homework in the SwCC library
- By attending and participating in Scholars’ Lab
- Tutoring sessions held by the Center for Student Success (CSS)
- Homework Help through the CSS
- Alegra Assistance through the CSS
- Attend three Academic Enrichment Programs/Workshops (per semester) that will be hosted through the Center for Student Success.
- Meet with the Director or Co-Director of the Center for Student Success two times a semester.
- Connect with Success Coach at two times a month
- Connect with mentor at least once a week
- Complete work study in Center for Student Success (if eligible)
- Attend three annual events:
- The LK Scholars Program Orientation - Scholars get to know one another and learn about the requirements to maintain their scholarship.
- Annual banquet - While enjoying an elegant sit down meal, scholars will network with LKMSO administrators and other distinguished guest.
- President’s Dinner- Awards dinner hosted by SwCC president.
