Minister Michael Payne serves as the Lead Minister at Harvey Church of Christ, a congregation deeply rooted in faith and community service (harveychurchofchrist.org). Appointed to this role in May 2022, Minister Payne’s leadership reflects a life transformed by grace, perseverance, and a renewed commitment to God’s calling. His journey is one of redemption and restoration — a testimony to how faith can rebuild purpose and ignite service.
Born and raised within the Harvey Church of Christ family, Payne’s early years were marked by both spiritual exposure and personal struggle. Though he grew up in the church, he faced challenges that led him to drift away from his spiritual home. Yet, God’s plan for his life was far from finished. After becoming a father to his son, Malachi, Payne experienced a profound turning point. Seeking guidance and renewal, he began attending Lansing Church of Christ, where his faith was rekindled and his life began to move in a new direction — one centered on hope, accountability, and transformation |
In 2016, Payne returned to Harvey Church of Christ with a renewed spirit and a clear sense of mission. His dedication and growth led to his appointment as Assistant Minister in 2017. Since then, he has poured his energy into preaching, teaching, and mentoring youth. One of his most impactful initiatives is the “Gym Ministry,” also known as “Soldier Hood.” This program blends spiritual, mental, and physical wellness, offering young people a safe space to grow stronger in faith while developing discipline and resilience. Through this ministry, Payne has helped countless youth discover their identity in Christ and their potential as leaders in their communities.
